HOUSTON -- The University of Houston track and field team set a pair of regional qualifying marks as the Cougars wrapped up the first day of the Tom Tellez Invitational on Friday at the Carl Lewis International Complex.

Brittani Williams led the way for the Cougars, setting a regional qualifying mark in the javelin with a mark of 44.30m (145-04), currently the fourth-longest in Conference USA this year.

Wesley Bray set a season-best in the men's javelin, posting a best of 55.73m (182-10) on the day. Also competing was Brandon Hubbard, who finished with a long of 48.39m (158-09).

Alex Bentley, finished in first place with a clearance of 5.05m (16-06.75) in the men's pole vault, setting a regional qualifying mark. His mark is currently the second-best posted in Conference USA this season. For the women, Morgan Lancaster and Shannan Arnold both cleared 3.40m (11-01.75).

Sidney Flores and Hubbard both set season-bests in the shot put with marks of 15.68m (51-05.50) and 15.09m (49-06.25), respectively. For the women, Kiara Pulliam (13.91m) and Charlissa Foster (13.52) both competed for UH.

The Tom Tellez Invitational will continue at 9 a.m. on Saturday as the field events continue with the men's and women's hammer throw. Running events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the men's and women's 5,000-meter run.
