March 27, 2006 Hey Cougar Baseball Fans, Well, this weekend was outstanding. Starting off Conference USA play with a sweep is only huge. I know that we weren't the only team to do so in the league, but that is definitely going to pay off in the long run. Friday night's game against the Thundering Herd of Marshall was a great win for the entire team as a whole, winning 7-0. Brad Lincoln was lights out again, and the offense scored seven runs on eight hits. Plus, the shutout gives the pitching staff another day of pitchers' batting practice. Boy, I wish you guys could see that. Some of the pitchers are pretty funny in the batting cage. Shea Hancock gets real fired up when he gets a chance to go hit on the field. He'll wear wrist bands, athletic tape on his arms, turn his hat backwards, and I'm sure if we told him where it was, he'd put on eye black too. Saturday was a little bit closer with us coming out on top 4-1. Jake Stewart had a bases-loaded double that scored three runs for us, and that ended up sealing the deal. Ricky Hargrove had another strong start, receiving his third win of the season and striking out a career-best eight batters. Clay Boone came in during the late innings with a strong relief appearance to close the door. Sunday's game was not a nail-biter in any way to say the least. It was pretty much one sided all day. Before the game even started, I made it perfectly clear to the entire team that the C-USA Sunday 10-run rule was in effect, and I think everyone took it to heart. We got out to a first-inning eight-run lead and never looked back. We ended up winning 15-1 in 7 innings, allowing the "10 after 7" rule to come into play. A quick side note: Until next time, Brett
