May 21, 2001

HOUSTON, Texas - Next stop the NCAA Tournament.

For the fourth time in the last five years the University of Houston baseball team has advanced to an NCAA Regional and will be one of 64 teams in the country to compete for the national championship. The Cougars join Baylor, Texas-Arlington and host Rice in the NCAA's Houston Regional at the Owls Reckling Park this Friday through Sunday, May 25-27. UH will face Baylor at 7:00 p.m. in the second game of the day while Rice meets UT-A at 3:00 p.m.

Houston compiled a 29-28 record in finishing second in the Conference USA regular season standings. The Cougars were rewarded with an NCAA postseason bid after playing one of the nation's toughest schedules that included games with NCAA-bound foes Cal State Fullerton (three times), Southern Cal (three times), Tulane (3), Rice (5), LSU (3), Baylor (3), South Florida (3), Texas (1) and Texas Tech (1).
