UH Golf Team Ties for Sixth at Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate
BIRMINGHAM, AL (Oct. 17) - The University of Houston golf team shot a one-over par
285 in Tuesday's final round to finish in a tie for sixth place among a
field of 12 teams at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Birmingham,
Alabama.
The Cougars finished the 54-hole tournament with a team total of 860 shots, eight over par and 35 strokes behind tournament champion Clemson (825, -27). Houston tied USC and was eight shots out of fourth place at the 6,958-yard, par 71, Old Overton Golf Course. Junior Wade Ormsby paced the UH team scoring Tuesday as he had done in the first two rounds. Ormsby fired a season-best four-under 67 to finish at six-under (207) for the tournament and tied for seventh overall in the 60-player field. The native of Adelaide, Australia, was 11 shots behind individual champion Bryce Molder of Georgia Tech (196, -17). Houston true freshman Brad McIntosh tied for 20th (215, +2) with while senior All-America candidate Andy Sanders tied for 24th (216, +3). The Houston golf team will next be in action at the Golf World Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, South Carolina, on November 3-5.
