A seven-foot high jumper out of high school...finished third in the state in 1996...regional champ and fourth in the state in 1995...invited to the Golden West Invitational in 1996...listed as one of the top eight jumpers nationally...received first team All-District honors as a wide receiver and kicker in football...also received first team All-District honors in basketball and was selected to play in the Texas High School Coaches Association’s All-Star Basketball Game.

Born February 11, 1979, in Rockdale, Texas...received National Math Scholar Award...chose UH because of the track tradition and the superior facilities...father, Miller Bassler, played football for the Cougars in 1970-74 as a tight end and wide receiver...younger sister, Briana, competes for Lady Cougar track and field team...younger, brother, Blade, is a redshirt quarterback for the Cougar football team...uncle, Kent Nicar, was drafted as a pitcher out of high school...hobbies include listening to music and playing the guitar...major is engineering.
