No. 11 Softball Falls 1-0 to No. 24 Virginia Tech

Blacksburg, Va. - The University of Houston softball team dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 24 Virginia Tech on Tuesday in Blacksburg, Va. The Hokies scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning breaking up a no-hitter by senior Angel Shamblin to come away with the win. No. 11 Houston moves to 25-4 this season and 0-1 all-time against Virginia Tech. Shamblin held the Hokie batters to no hits until the bottom of the sixth inning when Beth Walker hit a double down the left field line to give Virginia Tech their first base runner. She would score an unearned run when the next batter, Whitney Davis, hit a single to third base and Walker scored on a throwing error by junior Christa Raley. Houston had one final chance to get on the board in the top of the seventh inning but Virginia Tech pitcher Angela Tincher struck out three-straight batters to close out the game. The Cougars would put two runners in scoring position in the top of the fifth inning. With one out, junior Haley Valis would reach on a walk and junior Christa Raley followed that up with a bunt, but both runners would be stranded on base following two strikeouts by juniors Jessica Valis and Katie Bush. Shamblin pitched the complete game falling to 14-2 this season in the circle. She allowed two hits, one run, no walks and three strikeouts. Up Next
