Softball's Raley Named Co-C-USA Hitter of the Week

Dallas, Texas -- Junior Christa Raley was named the Conference USA Co-Hitter of the Week by the conference office on Monday. This is the first career weekly honor for the La Porte, Texas native. Raley earned the honor after hitting a grand slam in the Cougars 13-2 game one win over Southern Miss. Houston went on to sweep the Golden Eagles 3-0 in the series to move to 6-0 in conference play. Raley also had a team best .500 batting average in four games going 5-for-10. Her 1.000 slugging percentage and .545 on base percentage was second best over the weekend. Raley had just one strikeout and notched five RBI in the four games. She was a member of the Cougar offense that outscored Southern Miss 26-5 in three games and has outscored their conference opponents 62-10 in six league games. Raley's efforts helped the Cougars earn their second-straight sweep of a C-USA opponent this season. Raley is hitting .250 this season and has 16 RBI. Raley shares the honor with Kelly Nielson of Marshall. The Cougars will be back on the field March 29-30 for a series against Memphis. First pitch of the Saturday double-header is slated for 1pm and the series will conclude at 1pm on Sunday.
