Softball Stadium Constuction Wraps Up

Aug. 14, 2001

Houston, Texas - The University of Houston softball team will begin their second year playing in their newly completed facility. This facility was dedicated on May 5, 2001 during the inaugural season and the field has been playable since this time. Now that construction is completed, the finishing touches can now begin which includes painting, landscaping and clean-up. These final touches are to be concluded before softball's home opener on February 6, 2002.

The complex, which is located adjacent to the Tom Tellez Track on Elgin and Scott streets, will be the new home of Cougar softball. The complex was built to resemble Cougar Field, one of the top collegiate baseball stadiums in the country and overlooks the magnificent skyline of downtown Houston.

The facility includes a home and visitor dugouts with team locker rooms, a state of the art press box, concessions area and stadium seating for over 1,200. The complex will be fully lighted to allow for evening play.

The construction of the facility was made possible through the generous donations of UH alumni John and Rebecca Moores.
